Laser Refractive Cataract Surgery
Dr. Farooq Ashraf of the Atlanta Vision Institute performs cataract surgery using highly-advanced, state-of-the-art laser technology. Offering improved precision and accuracy for people diagnosed with cataracts, the LensX Femtosecond Laser breaks up the cataract and replaces the eye lens with an artificial lens.
Cataracts are a medical condition of the eye that clouds the lens, creating blurry or “waterfall” vision. Typically caused by aging, genetics or even eye trauma, cataracts are one of the leading causes of blindness worldwide. Annual eye exams are key to early diagnosis and treatment before symptoms like loss of vision worsen.
You could have cataracts and not even know it — the progression of cataracts is slow and gradual, often misrepresented as normal vision loss that can occur with age. Most ophthalmologists will diagnose the condition before patients can identify it on their own, which is why annual eye checkups are crucial, especially for people age 55 and older. Symptoms of cataracts are glares and haloes around certain objects (especially at night), blurriness and decreased object and color sharpness.
Cataract surgery is an outpatient procedure to restore vision. It’s performed in our office with “eye drop” anesthesia so the eyes are completely numbed for the surgery. Patients should have someone they know drive them to the surgery and back home after the procedure to rest. If you’re interested in cataract surgery, please fill out a contact form and someone will respond to you soon.
